Testicular cancer

What is Testicular cancer?

Testicular cancer is rather uncommon, but has very high cure rates even in metastatic sitting. It affects mainly the young individuals, genetic factors, history of undesended testis are important etiological factors. Painless swelling in young individuals should always be taken seriously in order to rule out cancer. Use of surgery, chemotherapy /radiotherapy has achieved cure rates of 90-95 % in even advanced and metastatic stage.

Use of bleomycin and cis platin have changed the face of testicular cancer and this is a great achievement of last millennium. These patients achieve not only complete cure but can father children through sperm preservation. Large metastatic tumors in the retroperitonum remaining after chemotherapy can be completely excised by RPLND by the experts with very high cure rate. This is yet another challenging operation.
